Headless Commerce: Building High-Converting Storefronts
How we achieved 40% higher conversion rates with a headless architecture for ShopWave.

Traditional e-commerce platforms are hitting their limits. Page load times, customization constraints, and vendor lock-in are pushing brands toward headless commerce. Here's how we built ShopWave's storefront with 40% higher conversion rates.
The problem with monolithic e-commerce: every millisecond of load time costs 1% in conversion. Our client's Shopify store was loading in 4.2 seconds on mobile. We needed sub-2-second loads while maintaining rich interactivity.
Our stack: Next.js for server-side rendering and static generation, GraphQL for data fetching, Stripe for payments, and Contentful for product content. The frontend is completely decoupled from the commerce backend.
Performance wins: automatic image optimization with next/image, edge caching for product pages, and optimistic UI updates for cart operations. Mobile load times dropped to 1.4 seconds.
The results speak for themselves: 40% higher conversion rates, 60% lower bounce rates, and 3x revenue growth within 6 months. Headless commerce isn't just a technical upgrade — it's a business advantage.
